I was driving home alone and switched the radio on to fill up the silence. Although I am more of a folk song fan, I do not discount any other genres of songs played on the airwaves. Cycling through channels, I came across an upbeat song on Hitz.fm and the title of it is I Kissed a Girl by Katy Perry. I have heard and seen this song before on Astro Television's music channels and it is about a sexually experimental encounter of a lady in a night club. She kisses another girl and confesses that she likes it. Here is the chorus of the song:

I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chapstick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don't mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don't mean I'm in love tonight

I liked it

Now, on the radio, what caught my attention is the bleeping out (silencing actually) of word 'girl', i.e.

I kissed a **** and I liked it

What the fuck is the point of censoring 'girl' when the following line has the word 'her' which is in reference to the gender of the person whom she kissed? Are the people responsible for filtering these songs that stupid or do they assume that the general public is not educated enough to understand something this simple? If they figured that people would be offended by a noun in an already controversial song topic, why bother playing the fucking song in the first place?

Same thing goes for the movie rating system in this country, totally pointless. I have seen many movies in the cinemas which were rated 18SX or 18SG but were completely butchered into an inconsistently rated viewing experience. Do the same censoring nitwits think the general public is too soft to accept what they paid to see or are they incompetent with the definition of their own given rating?

With the current political happenings that is going on in this country, whatever they censor pales in comparison because they are real. We have sodomizers, an explosion, lying politicians, stealing from the nation's funds, contradictory statutory declarations, government conspiracy theories etc and its all printed in our newspapers for the public to read day to day while thinking how much more can they take of this nonsense.

In conclusion, read my title you censoring pricks.

I entered a couple of 10km runs so far this year which were held at Merdeka Square. To and fro the Masjid Jamek LRT Station, I would pass by the Sultan Abdul Samad building which is on the way to the venue. A thought entered my mind today, unbidden, about this building which is rich in history.

It is a humongous piece of real estate in Jalan Raja, designed by A.C Norman and had its foundation built by Sir Charles Mitchell from 1893 and completed in 1896. It was the seat of power for the Federated Malay States administration. Among the historical events that this building witnessed were the declaration of independence of Malaya and lowering of the Union Jack Flag and also the standardization of the time between west Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore.

In 1972, it housed the courts of justice and since then it has seen through events such as the death sentencing of Wong Swee Chin, a.k.a Botak Chin, Mona Fendi ; viewed respectively as the Robin Hood of our country and our very own Mrs. Lovett minus making pies out of the hacked human meat, and the jail sentence of our supposed anal raping politician, Anwar Ibrahim.

Now as you look closer past the outer gates into this building, it is a sad decaying sight. Run down, dusty and unkempt is this historical site of Malaysia which has faded along with the usual “tidak apa” attitude that we have. The only time we seem to care about this building is on the 31^st of August where it is all about the façade just like how we have been taught and treat our history in schools; just stand at a distance, shouting and raving about independence and watching the fireworks without pondering on the meaning of it.

In the present day, our building heritage is meaningless mega malls like KLCC, Pavilion and MidValley which is there just to feed our unending appetite of acquiring things. It represents one of the most recent and lasting culture that we as Malaysians and even developed nations have; consumerism.
